School Visits

Being a classroom teacher for 16 years, I enjoy speaking with children about dreams, goals, hard work and hope. A full day visit usually consists of three sessions, typically 50 minutes in length, or two sessions in a half day.

In a typical session called “From Dreams to Reality,” I talk about how I became an author, what inspired me to write and how real life experiences are a great basis for stories. I also talk about my dream of publishing my work and the challenges along the way. I leave the audience with a positive feeling of "I can do anything!" After the session, I will answer questions, sign books and talk individually with students.

I can base my session on the events of 9-11 and John's struggles throughout the entire experience—and explain why children ages 7 through 12 can make a big difference in the way they touch another's life in a non-threatening, positive way. Small group sessions (20-25 children) to read the book, It’s Okay to Cry, answer questions, sign books and talk individually with students.
